When I retired in 2017 after a 39-year career as a teacher, coach, and administrator in Mason, St Gerard, Charlotte, and Gaylord schools, I started to do acrylic and watercolor painting. My wife Katie and I have been married for 57 years and have three children and 2 grandchildren.
My artistic painting began shortly after my grandchildren spent a day with us painting rocks in our garage in Presque Isle, Michigan. I decided that I shouldn’t waste the leftover paint, so I picked up a brush and started painting pictures. I also did some art in high school, but that was over 50 years ago.
In 2017, I met Anita Saviko, owner of the Michigan Lighthouse Art Gallery in Williamston, at an art show. Since that time, she has been my advisor and teacher. I have since taken several classes from Anita, and she always pushes me to improve my art skills.
I primarily use acrylics, watercolor, and a little bit of gouache as my mediums, and my subjects vary. My artwork is for sale at Great Lakes Art and Gifts, and at Mrs. Laura’s Gallery in Reo Town Marketplace. Many of my original paintings are available, as well as signed and numbered prints.
